Air source heat pumps

You can benefit from significantly lower fuel bills, the constantly rising cost of fuel makes Air Source heat pumps an increasingly attractive answer to the problems to budgeting faced by businesses and families. As once Air Source heat pump heating is installed the only associated costs are for maintenance. In a world faced with increasing competition for fuel resources and diminishing availability of fossil fuels renewable or green forms of energy are becoming increasingly viable alternatives, the reality facing all of us is that scarcity of resources can only result in significant rises in the costs associated with traditional forms of heating.

Heat pumps can play a significant role in lowering a home or businesses carbon footprint. Something that Governments businesses and individuals will be under increasing pressure to achieve; As a result of the Kyoto protocol to which the UK is a signatory.

"The objective of the Kyoto climate change conference was to establish a legally binding international agreement, whereby all the participating nations commit themselves to tackling the issue of global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. The target agreed upon was an average reduction of 5.2% from 1990 levels by the year 2012. According to the treaty, in 2012, Annex I countries must have fulfilled their obligations of reduction of greenhouse gases emissions established for the first commitment period (2008-2012) (listed in Annex B of the Protocol)."

No fuel deliveries required.

Can provide heating and hot water

Fit and forget solution as it requires little maintenance.

How does an Air Source heat pump work.

Running an Air Source Heat pump solution is like turning your home or business into an inside-out fridge. In a refrigerator cooling fluid extracts heat from the internal space and exchanges it to the outside air using in effect a radiator fixed to the back. With an Air Source heat pump, heat in the outside air is used to heat the inside of the building, It can even extract heat from the air even when the outside temperature is as low as minus 15° C.

Simple explanation of the first law of thermo dynamics

Although Heat pumps have some impact on the environment as they need electricity to run, the heat they extract from the air, is constantly being renewed naturally.

An air-to-water system can distribute heat via either radiator central heating or under-floor heating system. Heat pumps work much more efficiently at a lower temperature than a standard boiler system would. So they are most suitable for underfloor heating systems or large radiators, which provide heat at lower temperatures over longer periods of time.

Alternatively an air-to-air system produces warm air which is circulated by fans to heat your home.

In either system heat energy from the air is absorbed into a fluid which is pumped through a heat exchanger in the heat pump. Low grade heat is then extracted by the refrigeration system and, after passing through the heat pump compressor, is concentrated into higher temperature heat capable of heating water for the heating and hot water
